Posted by milantram on Wed Jul 23 07:26:47 2014 With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore." 'Twas The Night Before Metro-North and all through the town, Not a creature was stirring, not even Fred Brown, The bunting was hung on the bridge fence with care, In hopes that the M7s soon would be there… ---- …The conductor exclaimed as he rode out of sight, 'Happy Commute To All, and to all a good night!' I love the human element of this photo. Commuters just going about their business, and when the train arrives, they will board and continue the same. While we tend to focus on the vehicles that provide the transportation, it is refreshing to see the human element that we tend to overlook while railfanning.Bill |

Of course they're not interested in trains. For them it's cars and boats that they play with. |

Milan: That's a great picture but I believe that the "Night Before Metro-North" was December 31, 1982. I was the railroad agent at Bronxville at the time and had to retire my Conrail hat and put on a Metro-North one.Larry, RedbirdR33 |

I knew I'd get some flak from the purists on this group. I knew the date of changeover from Conrali to M-N was December 31, 1982, but that wasn't the point of this little exercise. See, I was inspired by the bunting on the bridge, And as I was drifting off to sleep last night, the idea of paraphrasing the poem grew traction (no pun intended, as Chappaqua wis still non-electric territory then). In the morning, I looked up the poem, made the changes and voilà! :) |
