well..if you count the Culver shuttle..then yeah.
It was the last..only because it needed to be connected to the Archer subway.
But it DIDN'T need to be removed so early..leaving the neighborhood without rail service for 10 YEARS...Practically driving business away.

I'd say the Snediker Ave portion on the L line was the last el to be razed. And yes, it drove business away and I'm sure they still regret that decision to this day.

It has been on the forums that the construction of the Archer Avenue subway stations and tracks was completed several years BEFORE those lines opened and were serviced by J and E trains.

I'm wondering if the dates of the fairly completed construction could be compared with the dates of the removal of the J-train elevated sections? Could the neighborhood have had restored train service in quicker than 10 years? Just an honest question.

Mike

The inner 2 of the 5 now demolished stations was razed in 1990. You can claim Sneideker Ave was the last el demolition in NYC (2003-4) but that did not include an actual loss of service, just a pruning of excess infrastructure.

My parents and I took the Jamaica elevated line in the 60's to Sutphin Blvd for the L.I.R.R. and when we came back early enough we'd go to Bargain Town U.S.A. around Reid Ave the big red white and blue striped building, what a damn shame that portion was torn down, and back then there was plenty of stores and people shopping at times with crowded streets what a bunch of dumbass's we had and have in city hall.
