I was wondering why they do not have pitted stainless steel window masks and end walls similar to the R-160's The original R-160A & R-160B did not have these upgrades but every car since did. They are scratch & gouge resistent but unfortunately, acid is a problem. I saw a R-160 on the M that appeared to have the front stainless steel surface buffed out no doubt due to acid vandalism.Type error sorry |

Late Night Announcements (Queensboro to Main) (Re: R-188 now in service) |

Posted by R36 #9346 on Tue Jan 14 10:58:46 2014, in response to Re: R-188 now in service, posted by G1Ravage on Tue Nov 12 08:30:21 2013. Last night (at about 23:30), I spotted a train of R188 cars headed toward Manhattan, between Queensboro Plaza and 33rd Street. After doing some rough estimation, I realized this train would likely continue being in service for the trip back to Main Street, and that doing so would expose some of the late night announcements, so I turned around. I boarded it as a Flushing-bound 7 train at Court Square shortly after midnight (00:08 to be exact). Here are some notes regarding the announcements: • The announcement for Queensboro Plaza uses the same "Transfer is available to the N trains" announcement as the weekend version. • The announcement for 61st Street is the same as it is at other times when the 7 express isn't running. • The transfers at 74th Street are voiced by Catherine, including the same Q70 transfer announcement used at 61st Street. • Announcements at Junction Boulevard, 111th Street, and Mets-Willets Point do not announce their respective airport bus transfers. The train arrived at Main Street shortly after 00:30, and was taken out of service, so I wasn't able to catch any of the Manhattan transfer announcements. |

The transfer announcements are used in the five time groups (AM/PM rush hours, middays, evenings, late nights and weekends). They are always fixed like that and I would notice across the board that the late nitht announcements are somewhat accurate. From what you are telling me about, the announcements are accurate. I still have issues with the announcements on weekends and probably would think they don't do anything when the E or G is not running at Court Square on a particular night or weekend. |
