Museum Rolling Stock |
|
|
Posted by blue8irt on Wed May 15 09:01:46 2013 Please forgive me in advance, I just do not know the status of these things. Are there Triplexes in the Coney Island Yard? If there are, when did they last run under their own power? Same as with the BMT Standards. And is it true the the 1939 World's fair car can never be put back together because of part pirating? Is it a lack of money to get it done? Why does one car languish for so long? |

D-Types/Triplexes = Pitkin Yard in storage, as I had heard or read here on SubChat. They did ran their own power getting there, AFAIK.BMT "AB" Standards = Still at Coney Island Yard Shops, under a very long restoration it seems. 1938 WF Lo-V car = Seen in outdoor storage by itself at 207th Street Yard. And if anyone asks me about the two surviving R-10's (#3184 and #3189), sorry I don't have their current status as of now. Given the state of those and these cars, I will just deal and accept now (for myself at least) #1575 (the almost R-10) and #5760 (the baby R-10, its new nickname as heard this past weekend) as the subtitutes as being as good it is ever going to get at this present state. -William A. The two surviving R-10's are probably hiding somewhere. #3192 was stripped inside the Coney Island Yard main shops in the fall of 1980, then sent outside to the yard later scrapped.-William A. The Triplexes, unless they got to Pitkin under their own power more recently, last ran under their own power on October 27th, 2004 as part of the NYTM's "Parade of Trains" couducted on the express tracks of the Brighton Line between Brighton Beach & Kings Highway. They did not carry passengers that day at all, though, as they needed help to get over the Manhattan Bridge and suffered mechanical difficulties as a result. The R-9s pulled them back to Coney Island Yard later that same evening.--Mark |

I wonder if that R10 is stored on the tracks between the Museum and Hoyt Street, I know they left the Slants there when they wasn't on display, I wonder if that's the case with the R10s? Most of the museum cars's locations are known except for that one, someone even found the R38 museum pair at Pikin Yard. |

If you're talking about the R40m-R42 Mismatch pair, it's still sitting there (as of 5/15/13). I doubt it will ever run again because it was covered up to its windows in salt water from CI Creek when sandy came around. |

That what I heard the R-10's were there the last time around. However, on recent visits there, and unless the light bulbs are out at that section of the model board in the tower, I do not see them there lighted on the tracks west of the interlocking switch on the W/B side.-William A. If only it did just one more trip. But overall that was a great day seeing all the trains rolling up and down Brighton. |

The ceiling inside of 6019C needs immediate attention (a fan is loose). And there is plenty for the Body Doctors to do to that unit. I think 6112 is in better shape than 6019 from what I've heard.wayne |

The amazing part about that run was, we crawled as we pulled out of 59th St. (it was a five-car train; we stopped at mid-station to let someone off), then just before we reached the tunnel, Steve wrapped it and that train just took off. It was the good old days all over again - we were still gathering speed through 72nd St. |
