I'd say that they are not particularly similar to either of those bombardier products. Lower level is at normal height, with half upper levels on each side, open to the lower level. Totally different concept than any other double deck design.

yes the Caltrain SS cars are clones of the Metra cars Railman rode. The Burlington IINM was first, then C&NW who pioneered push-pull. SP bought copies of the C&NW cars and the basic design persists including the Highliner IIs on Metra Electric and South Shore.

Because a picture is worth a thousand words:

Upstairs

Probably not from the same type of Gallery Car.

I'm not aware of any transit vehicle in the US with an interior that could be described with a straight face as being stylish or catchy.

Nashville also uses the "gallery" setup, not surprising since they bought their coaches second hand from Chicago's METRA.

I sometimes wonder why NJDOT bought Pullman Standard single-levels for the E-L commuter trains out of Hoboken instead of gallery cars. The old DC wires weren't too low for them. (Woulda been great for the CNJ too if not for the high platforms at Elizabethport and Cranford.)
