That's true, but if a person is doing his job and not reading a Goddamn newspaper while operating a 100 ton train consist at 60 miles per hour with the lives of passengers at stake, that person should have nothing to hide.Sure, paper over the windows. Then the T/O's can get blowjobs in the cab next. What's to stop them? |

Noone can see in cockpit of plane, yet no one is worried about pilots sleeping at the stick or intoxicated pilots or pilots surfing internet while flying(yes they do have WiFi for their laptop), do we know or care what that steward(ess) does in cockpit ??yet no one complaints and supervision is done by supervisors, not by passengers. |

Because a commercial flight usually has a co-pilot and a navigator, and the stewardesses - ahem, I mean flight attendants, are usually in and out of the cockpit taking food orders and such from the pilots. The pilots are not locked in for the entire flight. There is no reason passengers can't watch the T/O's. What if this knucklehead's window had been papered over and then he ended up derailing because of an obstruction on the tracks that he didn't see because he was reading the Goddamn sports section? |

If I can't trust T/O's to do their jobs, I want to be able to watch them. When I'm a passenger on your train, I want to feel safe and believe that someone is watching the tracks for signals, damage or the unexpected. This clown ruins it for the rest of the hardworking T/O's.BTW, more than once I have seen civilians in the cabs of LIRR trains. I once saw a healthily-endowed young woman in a tube top in there. I've never complained because I never saw the T/O take his eyes off the tracks in those situations. But if this guy does it, maybe others do too. |

That's true, but also besides the point. If the window had been papered over, there'd be no way we could have known what the T/O was doing. That's the important thing.Look, I'm not interested in making the cab into some kind of peep show. But on the other hand, if I can't trust that the T/O is doing his job properly and may be putting others at risk, then there is no choice. |

There is no access to the Flightdeck without FlightDeck crew interaction, for obvious reasons. Access is strictly controlled by the folks upfront and they lock themselves in at the beginning of the flight.Sorry your arguement and comparison do not hold up. |

What else can I do?I'm not saying that the MTA should make all cabs visible to passengers. I am just saying that the ones that are already visible should remain so. Papering the windows over will just encourage more bad behavior. |

That depends on how old the planes are. Some still require three person crews. Also, even with a two-person crew, there are seats available on the flight deck for other people, including trainees, FAA personnel, et al. |

The FRA should step in and tell all train service that window must not be covered up. it is our right and duty to report these moron for endangering the safety of the riders. they need to do that as well on NJTRANSIT. Remember , if you think you could get away with it, one of these days you will be caught redhanded(especially with all technology today). The other way can be done is have 24 hours monitoring camera in each cab, so that their bosses will be watching them as well. This is IMO. |

You do not need bosses but you obviously need more road supervision. It's pretty clear that this is happening based on this video and the previous one of the NYCT T/O texting while operating her train across the Williamsburg Bridge. It's pretty clear that engineers and train operators are not complying with the rules or using common sense on their own. |

I would also expect that LIRR management will remove the metal screens from its M-7s and institute a similar directive due to the bad publicity form this incident. The NYCTA will probably also start enforcing is rule regarding not covering cab door glasses more strictly. |

Instead of putting up paper, put up one way mirror film on the inside of the cab, with the mirror side in the cab. This way the operator won't see who is watching over his or her shoulder. If It is good enough for NCIS then it should be great for Metro North. |

Don't ride the train. Or don't think about it. We are trained professionals who have been for the most part doing the right thing. I taught my daughter how to drive recently and sometimes it pains me to have someone else driving my pride and joy I drove for years without an accident but she will not be a better driver with me nagging her or taking over the wheel and looking over her shoulders. You are in no position to better your life because you need to be a backseat driver over a vehicle you are not qualified to operate. |

That is the exact reason why there is a defuser of sorts in the glass. It permits light to lass through only perpendicular to the glass. Light entering at an angle (which would reflect off the vision glass) is blocked. |

There are not many jobs in large organizations where people work in complete privacy anymore. In modern corporate America, you often have to be a third or fourth tier manager to get an office, and even then chances are it has windows so people can look in.
