Posted by Elkeeper on Thu Jun 7 17:08:51 2012 Anyone else find the mistake in the info about Myrtle Ave Line in the "Stations' section in nycsubway.org? (hint- it's not any picture captioning!) I emailed them about it, but it's still uncorrected. See if you can also find it! |

Last year, I mailed him a correction on one of his pictures of the 9th ave el. In this particular photo, you will see 2 sets of 3 car composites at 155th Street. One is about to cross the Putnam Bridge, while the other is entering the station. The ONLY time this ever happened was on the last day of service, June 10th, 1940. They moved these composites in 3 car sets because they feared the 9th ave el would collapse- it didn't. They would be the first cars for the Polo Grounds Shuttle service. On June 18, 1941, they were cut to 2 car shuttles. Bottom line- he captioned them, "May be in June, 1940". gee, thanks! |

I believe that the correct date for the closing of Grand Ave, on the Myrtle el, is Jan 21, 1953. Sorry, I have this thing for historical dates! |

Grand Ave station on the Myrtle el closed on 10/21/53. That surprised me, since it served Pratt Institute back then. |

I stopped bothering after I dropped him a note to let him know he had mis-identified some R-44s as R-46s. The key things were the dates of the photos (1973-4) and the side and end sign styles. He responded with a snarky remark that I was absolutely wrong about the R-46s having arrived on the property with the solid bullet ends and route bullet|north over south terminal sides. "The R46s used the R-44 style signage until 1977." (It was 1977 when R-46 style signage started appearing on older R-4x cars.) I told him all he need do is look at other R-46 photos...to which he replied "WHATEVER!!!!!" Another regular told me that he tended to be dismissive of corrections from people who didn't live in or close to NYC or provide him with photos on a regular basis, regardless of their knowledge of things. I liked him a lot more before he became a diva. |

And then there was the time when he had a 1300 BU misidentified as a 1200 because that was the best reading of the car number he could make out in the photo. He wanted me to "prove" that one too. There were a couple of 1200s that looked different from the others because of rebuildings, but any NYC railfan should know what a 1300 BU looks like.There is lots of good stuff on his site but that fact doesn't mean he should be so dismissive of others, especially those who have more knowledge than he does. |
