Last year, I mailed him a correction on one of his pictures of the 9th ave el. In this particular photo, you will see 2 sets of 3 car composites at 155th Street. One is about to cross the Putnam Bridge, while the other is entering the station. The ONLY time this ever happened was on the last day of service, June 10th, 1940. They moved these composites in 3 car sets because they feared the 9th ave el would collapse- it didn't. They would be the first cars for the Polo Grounds Shuttle service. On June 18, 1941, they were cut to 2 car shuttles. Bottom line- he captioned them, "May be in June, 1940". gee, thanks!
