Wonder if they would have audited ARC too if that had proceeded. Probably would have. Back during the days when Alternative G was still among the options considered for ARC, the cost estimates were below $3 billion. |

Only because it was massively underestimated. Read the EIS sometime. The engineers came to the inescapable conclusion that any effort tunneling that shallow under Manhattan was doomed to cost billions of dollars. You are not in any way qualified to question their conclusion. |

The problem is that even though they are now about one Billion over budget, they are so far along in the project that the only possible outcome would be that the Feds cut off the money & kill the project 3/4 complete.Where were they 5 years ago ? The problem seems to be that once the momentum of the project got going everybody jumped on to get a piece of the pork :-) |

Maybe the Feds should audit the SAS also! They are, and also the Fulton Transit Center. It's a routine audit that was scheduled more than two years ago. FTA Oversight Announcement. |

So basically, the Feds are auditing themselves. They are paying a huge share of the cost, and they (Amtrak) are the ones who are not letting the LIRR into the Sunnyside/Harold area to do the work. Quit screwing around already, and get along with yourself! |

So basically, the Feds are auditing themselves. That's what the Office of the Inspector General does. If the feds weren't paying for it there would be no grounds for an audit. |
