There was no "subtalk" or anything back then, anything that was news you had to figure out yourself. I remember when I "missed" the R30's (red), and was so happy to find them on the Rockaway line. I didn't know they were going either, and I went with some friends to the beach, and when we got off, I snapped this photo: Little did I know this would be the last time I would ever ride one. They too were such a big part of anyone that grew up on the Eastern Division. When the R16's went "missing", I just assumed they were out getting repainted like the R10's. I had no idea they were being cut up. |

They ran on the C to Bedford Park Blvd back then.There was nothing better than riding one of them on the Rockaway line....with all the windows and doors open, fans whirling, and the sea air. I can still hear than clickity clank. |

There were no extensions on on any of the Myrtle stations north of Broadway, the concrete platform is the same age as the rest of the station, and is all original construction. |

Six-car trains of BMT standards seemed to be the norm on the Three Stooges Division. Every Larry train of standards that I ever rode on was six cars long. I would imagine they may have run three-car trains during the late hours. |

There were, however 2 intervals in the rush that were scheduled to operate as 8 steels. According to BMT old timers I worked with, those intervals were usually made with 3 Multi units and were referred to as "Queen Marys." The jamaica Line ran with 8 steels in the peak and 6 steels in the shoulder and off peak. Myrtle/Chambers ran with 6 steels during the rush and 3 steels off peak and Saturdays till the Multis were assigned there after 1956 when the norm was 2 Multis during the rush and 1 Multi unit midday and Saturdays until the Saturday Myrtle/Chambers service was eliminated circa 1960. I even recall riding a midday 3 car Myrtle/Chambers train of R-16s around 1960 or so. Midnight service on 14 St was a single Multi unit and on the Jamaica Line it was a 3 car B unit of steels. After the R-16s became the principal equipment on the Jamaica Line and the Multis were transferred to Myrtle/Chambers, midnight service on the 14 St Line was a single 3 car B unit of steels and Jamaica midnight service was 3 R-16s. |

I not only frequented Met prior to working for the TA but I worked out of there for most of the summer of 1969 and I can assure you that the platform at Met could NOT old 8 steels. If you are talking about 60 footers, that's a different story. |

True, But as I have said before in many of my posts, even the old unrebuilt Met could not hold 8 steels. I worked out of there as a C/R, M/M and T/D prior to the fire and when the M line was extended to 8 cars, they just fit in the station. |
