If SEPTA's Silverliner Vs keep clunking, then maybe they'll have to become push-pulls with these as power.Would have been great to see these as power on the MBTA's Attleborough-Providence line, but not all tracks on there that the T's trains use are electrified. If Metro-North and Connecticut DOT could have found some slots in NYP (the impossible of the impossible of course, but even for argument's sake), then the only sensible motive power would have been these hauling Shoreliners. And of course, Connecticut DOT continues to waste diesel fuel running SLE with diesels, something that was no longer necessary after 1999; should have picked some ALP-44s up to push-pull the Mafersa cars with. |

Electric locomotives are superior to diesel in every way. If a GP9 built in 1957 can still run today with the vibrations of its diesel then an electric unit should last TWICE AS LONG. |

Given most power plants don't burn oil. Millstone is in New London - it's a pretty large nuke and no doubt supplies a good chunk of the shore line's catenary. |

Remember the South Shore & the "Little Joes"? The juice boys neede to be careful when they were used because of this same issue. |

These 44's need a mid-life overhaul. Particularly the ones purchased in 1988-90. Amtrak can't use them as is because they are only geared for a top speed of 100 MPH.The logical destination for these engines is Metro North, for service between New Haven and Penn Station. |

As for Amtrak, they'd want to give them AC traction, and they're already getting their new slew of motors who knows when. |
