I guess they were too worn out for that along with the R17s. Sadly 7188 wasn't saved since it would of been an unrebuilt work car preserved. Oh well. |

Those cars had been retired for 7 years and look identical to how they were at the end of their revenue hauling lives (except for the cardboard trash and lack of rollsign). Interesting the doors are NOT orange, which may mean the cars were retired even longer than that. The orange interior came with the dumptruck white scheme around 1981. |

I remember that garbage train having 6700s before 1990 that crapped out pretty regularly. The 7300s I ran on the signal dolly were better since they got used SCM controllers installed when the R30s were scrapped. 7371 had a 2CY also, the rest of the cars got D4s. I know the motorman by his voice who had that job for years and I see that guy IRA again enjoying a joyride at 5th Avenue. Nice trip down memory lane. |

There is one scene you hear an R33 or maybe 32 pull in that sounds like it has R38-R42 RT-2 brake equipment. Other scenes show various equipment with wrong sounds. |

I remember seeing the R17 6740's on the Flushing and Astoria lines picking up station refuse. Sometimes they operated solid R17s with the flats, or they would be mixed up with the R21/22's 33S/36's. Like you said, towards the end of their career, they suffered a lot of mechanical issues, and were often sidelined at Corona. Every once and while one out of the five would make an appearance if the others were getting inspected or worked on. Those R17's still had motor generators instead of converters, like what was put on the R21 and R22's.Btw, R22#7420 also got a D-4 compressor. I think it was also assigned to the signal dolly train for a short while. |

When I picked the dolly they were running 7371 and IIRC 7327. 7460 was a spare in better condition but was never used. They were replaced by 8600-1 and another pair of 8600s, subsequently replaced by 8958-9 and other GE R-33s. sometimes it wad so had I'd be using garbage motors which I hated most for fear of the rat droppings because 207 never cleaned them unless you threatened them with system safety. |

The IRT SMEE cars, for the most part, got the orange and cream interiors sometime around 1980. Most of the B division cars did as well, but by the year that video was made, blue had replaced orange on the R32/38/40/42. |

After further viewing, I see a couple of IRT SMEE's with the early 70's gray doors. Maybe the orange wasn't as thoroughly applied as I remember. This was about the time I began exploring the system on my own, and I had just began doing the IRT that summer. |

Another vid "labeled as the 1980's" but cannot be any earlier than 1990:Note the difference between this and the 1986 video. Grafitti is gone. It's cleaner. It looks more like 2010 than the 1980's. Those 4 years saw a lot of change. |

IIRC some were painted red and used on the C, but they performed poorly and were quickly yanked from service in 1989. Despite what this vid shows, the C line was never fully R30 at any time, there were always R32's supplementing the R30 fleet. |
