It's that they think they can get away with it and have no one to answer to. Give them an inch...Everyone does it at some level, come back from lunch one minute late, turns to 2 or 3, excessive potty use....I guess it depends on the job. Not many have the freedom of riding round their BMW during hours. Just saying, this guy went really flagrant and above the law if he's gone for the WHOLE DAY. |

Maybe he's a visionary, scouting new routes for IRT extensions north of the city. |

I don't know why people do this. Sooner or later, you get caught. Similar things have happened in the agency where I work. You could do this for a day here and there, especially if you're on the road, but if you make this a habit, you will get caught. I guess no one was asking him to actually account for his workday...If I, or any of my colleagues go on the road, we have to account for it. Something like: "I went to X location and did activity Y"...sort of thing. Adn it gets reviewed. |

Here's the other interesting part. Now that the news has been posted on the web, and at other sites - it is going to be harder for this person to find another job with similar pay, benefits, etc. Many companies do background checks - so this information about him can be easily found. In the mythical past - some things could have been "hidden under the rug" while the person is removed from the job, and they look for work elsewhere. In light of the current economy, the level of job-lessness, the difficulty of finding similar work where other folk know of your reputation, etc. - this was a "very bad move". Just my thoughts. Mike |
