Yes, but MNR also printed WOH schedules consisting of a Port Jervis and Pascack Valley schedule.When the PJ was out for repairs, they printed seperate PVL and PJ schedules. The PJ busing schedule is printed in GIANT font and is twofold (accordion then up like the NEC schedule) |

In the past Metro North issued one for both lines. NJT includes PJ trains on their Main/BCL schedule. |

Bill: The first issue of the Metro-North Port Jervis Line Timetable was issued on October 21, 1984. It contained schedules for the Port Jervis Line only. If you called Metro-North for a Pascack Valley Line Timetable they simply sent you the NJT one.Beginning with the timetable issued on October 31, 1999 the Port Jervis Line Timetable was expanded to contain the Pascack Valley Line as well and this continued until the issue dated August 14, 2011. Then of course came Hurricane Irene and the subsequent suspension of service between Harriman and Suffern. Finally on November 6 MN issued a timetable for the Port Jervis Line that includes both the bus and train service. This schedule was dated November 6 through November 27, 2011. A separate time table was issued by MN for the Pascack Valley Line dated November 6, 2011. These two timetables were issued concurrently with all the NJT schedules on that date. A new timetable was issued for the resumption of through train service. It is dated November 28, 2011 through January 14, 2012. IT once again combines the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley Lines into a single form. So the November 6, 2011 timetable for the Pascack Valley Line only will be something of a collectors item. The last timetable that I have showing the old routing is NJT Form HOB-7 (Main Line - Bergen County Line and Port Jervis Service) issued on April 24, 1983. This still shows trains stopping at Monroe, Chester and Goshen. The October 30, 1983 issue of HOB-7 list the trains now stopping at Salisbury Mills - Cornwall and Campbell Hall. The strip map inside the timetable still shows the old routing. So the change must have occurred on or about 10/30/83. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

Its funny to think how dinky all the new stations on the line were when they opened - I don't think any of them even had shelters. And there was only the three trains in and out of HOB, correct? Plus the one trip in and out on weekends. |

Lou: What was really amazing was that the Port Jervis Line survived at all. We lost the Susquehanna passenger service in 1966 and large chunks of the CNJ passenger service in 1967. Then of course there was the great Erie-Lackawanna bloodletting in October 1966.Your right about the two two daily trains though. That service pattern was put into effect with the December 24, 1967 issue of EL Form 7. There would be two weekday trains between Port Jervis and Hoboken. They would leave Port Jervis in the early morning as Nos: 52 and 54 and return from Hoboken at night as Nos: 57 and 59. There was a third inbound trip in the morning originating at Monroe at 624 AM. (No 50). On Saturday there was one inbound run No. 70 and two outbound runs Nos. 75 and 77. By October 1969 No 75 was gone as well. This was the service pattern inherited by Conrail in 1976. Conrail had been receiving subsidies for this service from the New Jersey Department of Transportation and in 1979 New Jersey Transit was created and they were surprised to learn that they were paying for a passenger service in New York State. The MTA (this was before Metro-North) agreed to fund the service and purchased eight passenger coaches and one engine to contribute to the equipment pool. The timetable issued on October 29, 1978 (Form 7)is the first to identify the Port Jervis Service as being operated for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The MTA involvement started to show some positive results almost right away. A third outbound train on weekdays was added to the schedule as No. 61 running from Hoboken to Monroe. This train was extended to Middletown in 1982. The last Conrail issued timetable also list several shuttle trains between Suffern and Middletown with this service being provided by RDC's. (Rail Diesel Cars). Service still only ran Monday to Saturday. Sunday service did not resume until July 15, 1989. I hope that you don't mind this long winded answer. I don't think I have ever heard any one refer to it as that. Town of Walkill is simple to big to be a specific destination. This might have been one of those politically correct decisions that Metro-North had forced upon them. The Catskill Mountain Railway had to rename their Mount Pleasant Station at the request of local officials. Its now Mount Tremper. Apparently some folks were putting in "Mount Pleasant" on their GPS locators and ending up at a cemetery in Westchester County. Larry, RedbirdR33 |

I was looking at the online timetable...And yes, its political. The Town of Walkill is your classic 'used to be farmland, but got lucky with an explosion of development' one horse township. They haven't met a developer that they haven't met. The police force couldn't solve a shoplifting report, and serves as its main revenue stream - it was actually put under state supervison a while back! It also has a real identity problem, as 75% of its population is served by the Middletown PO, and thus all these people think they live in Middletown! So when MN wanted to open the new station, they threw a hissy fit to Albany, and thus "Middletown/Town of Walkill" |
