The 90-year-old subway cars were running mostly on a line that opened almost 107 years ago.

First a word from our sponsor…

Now, the photos.

This was a problem 93 years ago… and it's still a problem today!

More iPhone pics

And now, the videos.

That third clip is a real treat! Railfanning at its best. The gears got up to Ab above midddle C. That's fast - reminds me of the R-21/22s along that sane stretch.

Cool, but I really wish they had run a longer route. Maybe up to 148th St.

A wonderous time machine. The thrill of my younger days of riding by the front door. The RR in Astoria. The GG in Brooklyn (Pratt Inst.). My first "home" line, the 3rd Av. El and my last, The Myrtle Av. El. Every NYC kid should have a chance to do it. Then, they'd know what others know about the true joy of mass-transit. The sound, the speed and the ride. Un-equalled.

That wouldn't bode so well for the train's visibility near Midtown. The only other options would be to shuttle the train between 34th Street and 14th Street, missing Times Square entirely and forcing 2 and 3 trains to run local between Times Square and Chambers; or shuttle the train between Times Square and Grand Central. I suppose the train regularly on track 3 would need to be stored on the connection to the subway under Park Avenue South, but then again, are the gap fillers at Times Square set up to handle a train of Lo-Vs?

Shuttling between Times Square and 96th Street is the best bet. It hits Midtown and the Upper West Side while passing the Theater District, Columbus Circle, and Lincoln Center, and provides a nice express run along the original IRT subway that should keep rail buffs and "muggles" alike happy.

It seemed to take a little longer for them to accelerate, but once they got going, watch out!:)

I was lucky enough to ride the Q's on both the 3 Ave el and the Myrtle Ave el. But, these Lo-V pics and videos are a treat for me because my family seldom used the IRT subways. Well done!

I saw that sign quite a bit during the Parade of Trains. Can't remember if they put, "It IS a SMEE!" signs on the museum SMEEs.

The SMEE part is all about braking, not acceleration. The SMEEs do accelerate faster, though.

My cousin and I rode it on weekends to get the choice spot up front. In the early summer evenings, it was almost always available. How I must those old stations and sights. wah!

Was this just a one day run or will it be repeated? If so, when and what's the routing?
