WMATA Temporarily Allows Bottled Water Consumption on Board Trains

All of you wannabe criminal Subchatters who think that the WMATA regulations against eating and drinking on the system ought to get down to DC by the system closing on Sunday night. Due to the high temperatures, WMATA will allow the consumption of bottled water (and bottled water only) until the system closes on Sunday night. The press release has strongly worded language reminding passengers to take their trash with them.

Photography at Pentagon is illegal under order of the Department of Defense because the station is on Department of Defense property. That may have not been the case at the time the photos were taken, though at the time, such a restriction wouldn't have been as well publicized or as well known. Be sure to tell the cops about the LACMTA rules, hopefully they give about as much of a damn as you do for the laws and public ordinances that apply to WMATA.

"The reality is you can go 40 minutes without eating and drinking if you have to."

Where is this written? I can go all day without eating or drinking anything, including water. I do it all the time. I really don't have lots of sympathy for people who think they need to go all over the place carrying a water bottle as if it were the desert. It looks as though trash is a problem there, so, in any case, it is, as usual, the inconsiderate people who ruin it for everyone. Maybe if people would behave themselves we wouldn't have these problems.

Outside of the spilled coffee and drinks, most of these cases are:

a) People with no regard for their surroundings (people get paid to clean up SEPTA after all)

b) People with no regard for rules because they aren't supposed to be eating those types of things on the buses anyway.

I do appreciate the fact that SEPTA adjusted their policy so that I can enjoy a covered beverage and a snack to keep me going on my 2.5 hr journey home (or when I am out and about exploring the city).

From 1940 through the mid 1990's there was a ban on photography in the New York Subway. Many of the pictures that today are considered priceless documentation of the history of the system were taken "illegally". I have no problem with people who violate photo bans in order to document and preserve history

Two years ago I took the subway to the Mermaid parade in Coney Island. I drank a 24 oz bottle of water at CI before boarding the train to return to Astoria. By the time we arrived at 42nd St I had to get off to buy more water at the newsstand. My throat and mouth were unbearably dry - I could not even speak. So maybe you can go all day without drinking - I can't.

When I drive I am never without a drink in my cupholders. I dehydrate very fast.

People may have medical, meatabolic, or other conditions that do require that they drink more regularly. Why should WMATA take the chance that someone will get sick, and sue WMATA, claiming the "no drinking" policy contributed to the situation?

If you can go that long without hydration, that's fine, and I respect it. But many others might not be able to...

I was asked once to take the bottle out of the sleeve and show the bottle to them at Hoboken (PATH). And talking about PATH, they should allow water too in this kind of weather.

From 1940 through the mid 1990s there was a ban on photography in the New York Subway

The beginning of that coincides with the "unification" of the system (city government takeover). Very interesting . . . shows the left-wing tendencies of NYC even back then. If such people were entrenched in Washington DC back then, imagine how much sooner we would have had something like Amtrak? The "pointless arrow" on steam locomotives . . . ?
