I personally saw pictures of rail fans laying across the tracks in front of what looked like a slant. I also remember when an R-9 fan-trip ran into problems and they brought the train into Concourse Yard for examination during the lunch break. Those who did not get off the train at Bedford Park Blvd. rode the train into the yard and then felt that it was okay for them to detrain and walk around the very active yard without vests, without track safety training and with live 3rd rails. |

The 1st TM trip that ran back on 6-6-10 which featured all 5 Low V cars was the best trip of the bunch. It was a MOD style trip ie ran on both the A and B divisions. It did feature a few runbys and photo stops as well, as you will see below.     From the looks of things, the scheduled trips for this year, feature more of the same. The 1st trip will feature Low Vs. The last 2 will feature R9s. No TOMC...for yet another year. Makes you wonder if they will ever operate a fantrip again? The TM trips are no way comparable to what the MOD trips were. A point A to B ride, a 3 hour tour, and a straight ride back to A with no photo stops in between. I will definitely be saving my money this year and place it for other projects as I have no intentions on riding any of the Nostalgic Specials this year. If I decide to chase them down for photos, that will be up to me. |

I don't know how they worked the fan trips back then. However, if they allowed people to go onto a live yard track with a live 3rd rail and lie down in front of a train that presumably was not supposed to move, so that they could have their picture taken, I suspect that things were run pretty fast and pretty loose for the regulars back then. |

It's more fun and more of a challenge to chase than to ride. One thing that I do is I am usually in phone contact with someone who is on the trip (being outdoors, of course,) and they give me locations on where the train is going to and where the train is at so that it'll give me some ample time to get to a location along the line to set up.If one rides, then you can't get off until the lunch stop, take a 3 hour tour, *which is way too long if you ask me) and at the last stop and get just a photo or two if you're lucky. Honestly, I do not like the TM trips at all. Don't get me wrong...I do appreciate they operate the vintage equipment but if one has been there and done that over and over and over, it gets old and boring. I want a challenge. I want to see variety. But my guess for the reason why they decided to ixnay the length of the trip is because if they went over the scheduled end time, then the MTA has to pay the staff overtime (time and a half) and that's something that they refuse to do. Think of what happened during the Christmas Holiday runs...the same applies to the summer trips. So if I do go, I will only chase. That's it! I'M GONE! |

There is a "happy medium" between their usual trips and the MOD/ERA style trips.AFAIAC paying $35 (member rate) for the opportunity to take 1 or 2 pics is not worth it. Also I can't bring models on trips the TM controls without paying the TM an exorbitant and unaffordable licensing fee so I can't even do that type of photography either |

However, I am compelled to point out at this time that there is a technical difference between Bi-level and multi-level cars. As the turtle of al turtles was not aware of this difference during the debate, it should not detract from your excellent portrayal of the shelled buffoon.For the record, Multi-levels such as NJT uses has the majority of the seating on 2 levels as do the LIRR Bi-levels. The difference is that the NJT multi-levels can utilize standard and low-level platforms due to doors at both levels. The LIRR bi-levels can only use raised platforms. The differing terms have nothing to do with seating. Whineberg was unaware of this until I clarified the point at the end of the historic thread. |
