Blame the jury on this one, not the judge. They had the option of convicting him of a more serious crime, and chose the least serious, involuntary manslaughter.At that point, the potential sentence range was only 2-4 years. Under sentencing guidelines, there were no aggravating circumstances, and the judge followed the rules. He knew the sentence would be very unpopular. I have a hard time believing a cop can't tell the difference between a Taser and a gun, but the jury bought it. |
