I remember when Stroh's, of Detroit, attempted to take over a corner of the beer world. Schlitz went out of business. I used to go there for the tours. The beer they served on the tours was the best American beer I ever drank. I think the people who brewed Old Style, out in LaCrosse, WI, took over everything in Milwaukee except Miller. Even the Blatz name was revived for a while. The old CMStP&P Beer Line, as it was called, ran righr into downtown from the north, supplied the breweries there. I had hoped that they would convert it to light rail use, but it never came to pass. (Keep the thead on topic) Back in the Bronx, Reingold, Schaffer, Pabst and Balantine were our mainstays. |
