Not knowing all the details, he was receiving royalties on the sale. Apparently beer sales are paid for by a cents per gallon measurement. According to Wikipedia the brand was sold to somebody in 1963. My earliest records are from 1986, and it ran for many years after that. The brand was sold to Stroh's in the 1980's and then Stroh's along with Piels and Schaeffer were sold to Pabst.
