Trust me, the River Line rarely lets you down!! :-)Thanks for the good words, Lee!! But believe me, once things get crackin' on the River Line, they do not let down easily, and lately with the snowstorms kicking the crap out of the region, not unheard of to get trains backed up one behind the other all the way north towards Selkirk. Most of the River Line actions can be well seen from several Hudson Line stations: Peekskill, Garrison, Beacon, though at Beacon it is better to go to the waterfront, and watch the CSX freights wind thru the "High Line" in Newburgh, also New Hamburgh and Poughkeepsie offere good views, and of course in Poughkeepsie, the NH Maybrook Line trestle over the Hudson is a damn good vantage point for action on both sides, as Mr. Fred G. so wonderfully illustrated some time back. And hey, if you choose the Hudson Line for viewing, gotta give MNR and Amtrak some shoot time too!! They put on a good show as well, and if you are lucky, depending on if you do it during the week, you might catch a freight or two DAYTIME on the MNR Hudson Line!!! |
