Very awesome spot!!!Here is the run down..... Early mornings and early afternoons brings good spates of trains, mornings are mostly intermodal and 2 autoracks, lulls late morning and late afternoon, with 2 autoracks in the early morning (Q268, Louisville, KY to Doremus Avenue, Newark, NJ, and Q271, Doremus Avenue to Selkirk), about 6 - 8 hotshot intermodals, Q-118 being one of the hottest (Chicago to Little Ferry & Kearny), and if it has UPS, it is hot!!, and the usual manifests, Q409/10 (Selkirk to Rice Yard, Waycross GA and back), Q439/438 (Selkirk to Hamlet, NC and back), Q433/434 (Selkirk to Oak Island & back), Q-417/418 (Selkirk to Pavonia Yard, Camden NJ back) and Q-703/702 (Q703, Oak Point/Harlem River W.T. to Collier, VA and Acca Yard, Richmond, VA, Q-702 Acca Yard to Selkirk, with Q-701 forwarding empty trash containers from Selkirk to Oak Point/Harlem River W.T.), and of course be on the look out for the K-series ethanol trains between the Chicago area (Blue Island or Belt Railway Of Chicago Clearing Yard to either Oak Island or Linden on the Chemical Coast Secondary), occasional military trains, the Circus Trains (apparently Ringling Brothers is not the only circus that uses lengthy trains!!) and sometimes, usually on Sunday late afternoons or early evenings, pretty lengthy light engine moves between North Jersey and Selkirk, sometimes up to over a dozen units, and you can see JUST ABOUT ANYTHING, ANY ROAD NAME in that!!! Late evenings bring more intermodals, mainly stack trains and some more hotshots into the late and overnight hours. Manifests seem to be mostly daytimers here on the River Sub, though lately several northbound counterparts (Q418/438 and lately Q410) have been scheduled after dark, and Q-438 is the train of choice hauling up the M-8s from Bayview Yard, Baltimore MD. (OK, I caught my breath!! :-D) |
