Amtrak should spend some of that useless HSR money on upgrading the NECMuch of the so-called "HSR" money is going for NEC improvements. Don't assume just because it's legislatively labeled as "HSR" or in aid of HSR that it's for bullet trains. to 25/50K-60Hz catenary 60 Hz is what they should be aiming for. 50 Hz is kind of useless given existing AC power. Mind you, it's not an issue for AMTK, and I doubt that it would even be an issue for MNCR except that they view PSA as sufficiently unlikely that they figure (rationally), why bother with a heavier trainset for something that mightn't ever be? |
