I haven't the time to take the test at the moment - I'll do it later - but after reading Thinking in Pictures, the autobiography of Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who has become a successful academic and consultant in the field of animal-handling systems, both my wife and I came separately to the conclusion that I may be mildly autistic (which is what Asperger's implies). I'm not bothered one way or the other - I've had a reasonably happy and successful life and I'm still going strong at 61, so what the hell?Incidentally last Christmas I ordered a book from Amazon as a present for a relative, and Amazon sent totally the wrong book. What came was an Asperger's Dictionary, designed to help Asperger's sufferers understand figures of speech - explaining that 'like a bat out of hell' means 'very fast', and so on. I sent it back to Amazon but glanced at it briefly first. |
