3. I'm sure the workers will "bother to clean that up, when the renovation's done or something." Just look at the new South Ferry. I'm sure those tiles were filthy from all the construction that happened after they were installed, but on opening day they were pretty clean.

Well, I'm not so sure. Maybe it was before your time but I remember when the "new" Bowling Green station was built. (Why they used orange tiles and not green ones was always a mystery to me.) I assumed that the construction dust that had settled behind the lighting enclosures where the station name appeared would be cleaned before opening day. I was wrong. they remained brown and dingy (instead of white) for about five years before they were finally cleaned. Over time, then they got dirty from normal use and were never cleaned again. Finally they were just removed leaving the bare florescent bulbs and the station names on the enclosures were just replaced with signs.
