Unless there was another R-44 derailment at Kings Highway, I believe the date of the incident in question was January 16, 1981. That was the death knell for 75-foot equipment on the Brighton Line until the R-68s started entering service in 1986 (people along the line had beeon complaining for years that vibrations from the cars were causing damage to their retaining walls -- I don't know if it was ever proved).David |
