The only reason this has become an issue is because the congressional delegation that represents the Washington DC area is pressing the issue. The 06 22 2009 Red line wreck happen to close for comfort.Senator Barbara Mikulski has been grumbling for some time about that fact that the Tri-State Oversight Committee has virtually no regulatory authority over WMATA.
