Let's see.I've heard rumours that an ex-Gilibrait goldbar lounge with its furnishings still intact is sitting in Anadima yard. I don't know what it's going to be used for, since Nilet Railroad would never run a former competitor's flagship service like that. Incidentally, there are still six ex-Gilibrait goldbar lounges in service— two were converted into coaches, four into café cars. They usually run on the Southern Service trains or on intercity runs in the Southern Division, though one will occasionally make its way up towards the main corridor, usually on a City of Anaday train. Also, the experimental service from Däne to Erin Point via the old Executive route has been dropped. While it made the trip four minutes faster, it seems that the Eastern Spider railroad enjoys significant customer loyalty, and there is a certain level of resentment directed towards Nilet Railroad from many customers "within the spider." However, the Dethrox City Board of Transportation has abandoned plans to run a commuter service on the broad-gauge Old Road and will, instead, sell the tracks to Nilet Railroad on the condition that the NCC runs a commuter service for at least five years. Furthermore, several National MPs have joined with the Liberal Republicans in supporting the proposed Technological Safety and Consumer Protection Act which will impose significant safety requirements on all companies that provide teleportation as their "primary service." Because this includes the controversial Darlson-Lereten Amendment, it will increase overhead costs for such companies by more than 500%. While Nilet Railroad maintains several teleport machines, it does not provide teleportation as a "primary service" and is exempted. The effect of this will likely increase the cost of personal teleportation by 40%, keeping it firmly out of reach of the middle class. Because of these developments, Nilet Railroad common stock increased by 8/50 and closed out Friday at a solid 128/ per share. |
