The original IND subway was built in the 1930's in such a way as to discourage transfers between itself and the various other subway lines. So any criticism should go to the original planners and Mayor Hylan of the times.Since the MTA did not come into existence until 1968, it seems a bit much to criticize it for the building of transit facilities that were in opertion for some 30 years before the MTA was ever thought of. Another unwarranted aspect of the criticism was the lack of acknowledgement of the extension of the G-train during the rush hours in the 1970's to Church Avenue, and the use those express tracks by F-trains. That by the way was during the reign of the MTA. However Park Slope residents did not like the reduction in service and the transfers - so they compaigned along with their political representatives to have the rush hour F-service changed. The 1970's fiscal crisis and many other issues over the years have contributed to the subways that we have today. Just a thought. Mike |
