This of course is long overdue and a symbol of the contempt the MTA has had and still has for its riders.Smith-9th was never meant to be a terminal...the tracks were laid out the way they were during the construction of the South Brooklyn portion of the IND to get service started as soon as possible. There were plans to construct to Staten Island but the terminal for the South Brooklyn portion of the IND was always meant to be Church Avenue and it was constructed as a terminal station. The fact they continued to use Smith-9th Street as a terminal, causing the relay that slows up F service and forces passengers to wait out in the cold, rain, heat and whatever at 4th Avenue to go one stop to transfer to the old BMT shows just how little they give a damn. And then to announce this as a temporary solution for the construction rather than a permanent extension again is outright asinine. |
