HOB still has low platforms, as supposedly do numerous RVL stations and probably on other NJT branches as well. As a conductor, are you mandated to assist those with mobility problems up and down the steps from train to platform? Or is it just a courtesy? Is the positioning of the doors on bilevels any more compatible with low platforms? I remember it was common practice on the LIRR prior to ADA compliance for conductors to assist those who needed it at low-platform stops.

It's funny how a lot of SEPTA RR stations still have low platforms. We discovered that on our little Saturday jaunt on the R2 between Somerton and Center City. The look on my wife's face when the Silverliner came and she discovered she would have to climb three very steep steps was priceless. Also having to go to the ends of the cars and wait on line to exit instead of just going to the nearest side door. This is someone who's only ridden the subway, and very rarely, the LIRR.
