Then how does the Hampton Jitney do so well out there, maybe it's because the train is slower or isn't as convenient as the Jitney.Hampton Jitney is a one-seat ride, especially for people living on the East Side. (If, e.g., LIRR ran the Cannonball out of GCT, ridership would spike, or so I hold - let me add that the connectivity doesn't lend itself to this ever happening, and I'm just giving an example of something that would entice your 'Hamptons commuter'). It also tends to leave people closer to their ultimate destination on the east end than LIRR does. Not sure about the South Fork service, but for the North Fork, the bus tended to run more expensive. It's also better for people who care to learn nothing about LIRR and its operations. |
