While there is some really rich rich locations on the South Fork, the South Fork is more "partyesque".

Far more partyesque, yes.

The north fork also has some pricey locations too, but it's much "quieter". it's not the Hamptons scene.

Indeed. That's part of the attraction for me anyway. There's plenty of nightlife in New York. On the North Fork you have some really good vineyards (some really bad ones too, but forget that industrial grade crap), really good seafood, nice natural scenery, and not much nightlife.

But for artificial scenery, nothing beats the Hamptons!

On the really rich locations, it's really hard to buy in to a lot of the more desirable homes or even bungalows on the North Fork. The prices really shot up during the real estate boom (although they've dropped off precipitously now although not to pre-boom levels, not even close), and the other part of it is that property tax rates, even on a fairly modest house or bungalow are really high, to the point where it makes paying year-round for a summer home something that only the most affluent can really afford to do, especially on the larger properties.
