The best place I went to see it was at the US Customs Building parking lot and Halmar Perishables Building near the "5-Towns" extension of Rockaway Blvd near Runway 22R/4L intersection with 31R/13L, whenever I could at about 2:00PM, British Airways Flight 4 to London-Heathrow (in radio call sign, SPEEDBIRD 4). One time, stupid ol' me decided to try and hear it out without covering my ears, and about 10 seconds of afterburner thrust had my ears hurting and ringing for 35 minutes. The threshold of Runway 22R was right near the roadway to Halmar and the Customs Building, near a lead-up taxiway called Taxiway "C" (or Taxiway "CHARLIE") so believe you me that was up-close noise like you can not ever imagine!! It was the single most impressive plane I ever saw come and go from JFK, and JFK has had a penchant for hosting some standout aircraft, like DC-3s (the equivalent of an R-10 or an F-10, a real old school relic), USAF C-5 Galaxies, C-17 Globemasters, Air Force One, the A-380, and even a USAF AWACS plane, A KC-10 Stratotanker (military fuel conversion of the DC-10) and once a F-117 Stealth Fighter.
