Lots of crowding as people try to approach Metro stations. Federal Triangle is closed until 6:30 PM. L'Enfant Plaza is officially open but there are reported closures. Federal Center SW is overcrowded and police is holding people at the top of the escalators. WMATA is encouraging people to walk or take buses to further out from the city before trying to board a train. Crowds near the Washington Monument are not able to move, some have resorted to climbing on porta-potties to try to move around.

Riders can use Metro Center at G and 11 Streets and Gallery Place at F and 7th streets or, McPherson Square at Vermont Avenue and 14th Street and L’Enfant Plaza at D and 7th or 9th streets as the closest rail alternatives.

Bus route alternatives are 80 and X2 near Metro Center 70 at Gallery Place, 7A-X, 28 F-G, V8, P19, W19, A9, 97 near L’Enfant Plaza and the A42, 46, 48, 92 and 93 near Federal Center Southwest.

There have been extremely crowded conditions throughout the rail system and especially at stations near the National Mall.
