I don't know the official rules, but from observing, but the doors open automatically. Then the train operator will look out the window to determine when it's safe to close the doors. That said, I guess the train operator would be in trouble as he/she should've noticed guard lights from the extra cars???If she in fact saw no extra guard lights it is likely the doors on the second set of 6 cars never opened.
