The black cars cool too, and were known as B-models and D-models, the latter being the ones with porthole windows for the newark run.PA-1s are astounding, 43 years old, and still have SMOOTH operation. In my opinion, the *BEST* thing the PA can do with the relatively new PA cars is convert them to B units with no cabs and fit them with AC propulsion, then they won't need any CBTC since they aren't cab units. They are also kawasaki cars and look similar to the new PA-5s at their B end. Really though, even the oldest cars don't really feel old when riding in them, and their HVAC usually works too. I really don't see why the PA is going to scrap all these cars which are still good, in particular the PA4s. Shows they just got an extra cool 80 million dollars lying around or so, and provide junk service on weekends, and poor midday service, and still have the audacity to raise fares, and don't improve service. They do not behave like a company with financial problems, they just make excuses to fill their assholes, which are already filled with their brains, with some more bananas. Really, even the PA1s should stay around. The thing is that these cars are STURDY, and even have heavy end-posts and frames, and the fact that the distance between bolsters is relatively short minimizes flexing and the such. |
