Posted by R42 4787 on Fri Mar 7 01:13:50 2008 The last IND station before the Archer line, 57 Street (1968) is perhaps among my favorites. I like the "streamline moderne" design and "clean look" found here, compared to the later 1988 Archer line and the 1930s IND. The "Moderne" style first appeared in the prewar period and was still common into the postwar 1950s. The Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line Dearborn Subway, built around the war and opened in 1951 is in a similar Moderne style to the IND's 57 Street.Here's some from yesterday:
