"In order to factor in the response time of the brake system, it isassumed that the train experiences no braking for 1 second after the trip cock is struck, and then full braking begins. The train travels 40*1.47=59 feet during this second." Thanks, Jeff. So it takes aa full second for the dump valve to open and release the air, and for the pressure to drop sufficiently so the brake shoe engages? |
