That "thingy" on the roof was there when the cars were built in the 40's. It is the housing for the interior fans.Actually, the 'Wartime' PCC's that make up today's Mattapan fleet did not have the rooftop monitors when built - these were installed by the Metropolitan Transit Authority in the late 1940's. Not all of the Wartime cars received the monitor, and those without were referred to afterwards as 'flattops'. |
