PRR did indeed "worry" about the taxes, like all the others operating in NJ. Because of the volume of freight moving toward the N Jersey/NYC area up what is now the NEC (has it really been that long?) PRR was not in the precarious position that CNJ was, so the government thought. Of course, that mindset almost sank the whole industry. All this was near the end of the fully regulated era, which ended with the Staggers Act (1980).
