Also, forgot to mention. If you think the narrowness of it is a hindrance (I wonder if it was made narrower by the mall construction, since on the other board the person said there were utility tunnels built which is what the concrete block wall on the left side is), I just walked through a NYC Subway passage just as narrow, and apparently just as long, (and nearly as dark) today: At 191st St. The #1 I was riding to work kept tripping on some junk on the tracks, so I went out to look for a cab. Never having used that station before, I head to what I could tell is the exit, and see this incredibly long narrow passage with the exit practically a point of light in the distance. I was like HOLY...! I went back, then thrn took the elevator up to the other side. All the gypsy cabs had passengers. I try to see if the train is moving yet, but it is still moving a few feet and tripping. Figuring something was probably wrong with the train, and they were going to have to be pulling portions and stuff like that; I tried the tunnel, and finally was able to share a car with someone going part of the way. (Still ended up with all 3 trips, but I have plenty of WAA in the breaks, and was actually back in place for the final run!)
So funny the 33rd St tunnel should come up today, because that's the first thing I think of whenever I see a passage like that! If they can have that open, they can have 33rd St. open, if guarded properly, like the new one under 49th between 6th and 7th.
