Americans are too used to cookie cutter franchises. So that's the problem.So true, and in every way, beyond just hotels. Last year when I worked in Greenpoint, I was going out with some guys for lunch and saw an old lunch-counter and suggested we go there, and immediately everyone had sour looks and said, we'd be better off going to McDonald's "because we know it". And somebody I know visited Greece, said they were "so lucky" to find a Starbucks there! |
