You've just made my point. HSR only works on a regional level. You're not going to see a national network because the United States is too damned big in size. You won't see a HSR line between Paris and Moscow anytime soon. Most of the cities you describe may be ideal for HSR from a distance perspective, but there may not be enough demand. Let's keep the HSR proposals limited to where we all know they will succeed, which is in the northeast between New England and D.C. Amtrak's NEC is already competitive with the airline's various "shuttles", true HSR could put them out of business. |
