This is why at-grade crossings should be removed or consolidated on commuter tracks.Yes, it would be HUGELY expensive, and it can't be done in some locations due to the grade of the tracks. However, it would also help remove some of the lower speed limits in those sections which would decrease the commuting time. Easy. Pass a law allowing the railroad to tear up grade crossings at its own expense and for highway authorities to build replacement bridges at their own expense (if they need to be replaced at all). That way, the railroad doesn't get lumbered with the cost. |
