In some cases, an extra track might have benefits. For instance, if dwell times at a particular station are very high, a second track would permit two trains to be in the station at once. But isolated situations like that don't need an extra track along the entire line.Dwell time is artificially high because of the need to discharge and recharge the brakes. That brings minimum dwell time to 60 seconds. The time to empty and refill a train with passengers seldom exceeds 30 seconds. |
