Conductors don't have to worry about whether that ball is going to drop for you, whether you can reach the punch and numerous other things. Based on what I've read, the CR had zebras, did the fickle finger of fate, keyed and opened up. Wrong side? My bet is that they didn't know their line and made biggie mistake. They'll get yelled at (since the OP said they banged them in long before posting the drama here) and get a little tick mark in case it ever happens again.On the older cars, you could hear the doors move in the cab. The newer ones though I've noticed are extremely quiet. I've pulled into 59/CC and had a conductor open wrong side there ... you could HEAR it. BUZZ BUZZ and BUZZ usually got their attention. Newer trains had PA's though they usually figured it out on their own without help. But as I was always fond of saying (and you tickled me with your own comment) "what's BEHIND this cab don't matter ... do I see a pair of yellow lanterns up there?" :) |
