Conductor opened the wrong side |

Posted by gbs on Wed Mar 21 13:03:52 2007 I've always ridiculed the idea of the door enabler buttons on the train operator's console, because it seems to me that the conductor should be able to do his own job properly without a baby sitter. (The same goes for the "Got the line-up?" double-check the conductor does to make sure the operator does his own job properly.)But we could have used those enabler buttons on the #7 yesterday. We were waiting for the Flushing-bound express at Junction Blvd. last evening. It pulled it around 8:30, but the conductor opened the doors on the Manhattan-bound platform instead. When the doors closed the train pulled out, and we never got to board. Worse, the dozens of passengers who expected to change for the local across the platform instead had to go downstairs to the mezzanine and then come upstairs to the Flushing-bound platform. The conductor's car on the Flushing-bound side was #1948 (yes, it was an all-singles train). I reported this both to the dispatcher at Main Street and to mta.info via e-mail. |
