The seeds were planted int he 60's, as looking at photos, you can see things crumbling, graffiti just didn't hit in full force yet though. You are so right about the eons comment about the 1968 plan. From 1976 to about 1986, the subway just had no hope, and was just a complete shambles. It wasn't until around 1989 (even though they started slightly earlier) that it seemed, "Hey, maybe they "can" do it". Before that, I would jsut think it was a joke when I came across a train with freshly painted orange doors around 1984 or 1985. WIthin two weeks you couldn't tell. |
