Assuming it was a 4 car train, likely the convertor (motor generator on the other 60' cars) was dead on that married pair. Should it be dead on the other pair, then you have a dead train. That brings me to an incident I had when I was rookie. I was going north on a 4 car AA train composed of R32's. They held me north of 59 because they bought a D in ahead of me on the local track for some reason. Upon getting the signal, my train did not move. I reported it to Command Center. After doing a few standard things from the cab, I peeked out the cab door. All storm doors were hooked open due to the hot weather. I saw the last car was off the rail, dark due to a third rail gap. I went to investigate. My second car, an even car had a dead motor generator because it was silent, and the car off the rail was my only other motor generator, useless to me at the moment. So a motor instructor walked toward me and verified my findings. We told all passengers to remain seated as our follower added up to us. We took the 8 car train the rest of the way. It's next s/b trip was as a B, so the add was already made. It happened that I operated that train to CI. |
